MEDIA ADVOCACY

UGANET has promoted media advocacy through organizing Radio and TV talk shows covering both the districts and national level. Through these talk shows, issues concerning HIV/AIDS, Human Rights and the Law have been discussed and the community members have benefited through asking questions and getting clarification on the issues concerning them in communities. The Radio programs are broadcasted in the local languages thus reaching all the rural communities.

Our radio programs are still ongoing and interested members can access them on the following radio stations:

  • Unity FM in Lira
  • Radio Kitara in Masindi
  • Open Gate FM in Mbale
  • Radio Ankole in Ntungamo
  • CBS FM in Kampala

NTUNGAMO DISTRICT:

During UGANET Radio Programmes on Radio Ankole, the Presenters who include our Legal/Programme Officer Ms Dorah Musinguzi, OC Ntungamo Police Station, Child & Family Protection Unit fron Ntungamo Policehave discussed "The Role of the Police and Protection of Vulnerable Children". And the Public was called upon to ask and discussed the topic.

On other Occasions, UGANET has also invited vulnerable group Members (Widows, Orphans) to the studio to share their experiences with the public as People call in to ask their Questions.

The Probation Officer, Ntungamo District and Our Legal/Programme Officer have also been to the Studio discussing about "Will Making and Protection of Children's Rights" as the Listeners called in.

MASINDI DISTRICT:

  1. UGANET Radio Programmes running on Radio Kitara are tackling the following Issues:
  2. Child Neglect, the role of the local Councils and Police in handling Children affairs.
  3. The role of the Youth Councilors in the protection of human rights of the youth in the context of HIV/AIDS.
  4. HIV/AIDS related human Rights violations against Women, People living with HIV/AIDS and OVCs
  5. The role of the Community Members and Leaders in the protection of human rights of vulnerable groups.
  6. Bwijanga Workshop and Launch of UGANET Office.
  7. Intestate Succession.
  8. The role of the Child and Family Protection Unit in the protection of human rights of Children.
  9. Handling Children in Conflict of the law.
  10. Children and HIV/AIDS.

KAMPALA DISTRICT:

In Central Uganda, UGANET runs its Radio Programmes on Radio CBS on Thursdays at 11.30am. The Presenters on this Programme discuss issues like Will Making and listeners call in to discuss the topic.

Our Legal/Programme Officer Kampala, Ms Nairuba Angela together with UGANET Board Member Ms Regina Mutyaba are among those present and discuss the topic.
